In the following viewpoint John L. Daly argues that predictions about rising sea levels due to global warming are based on a theoretical model, not on actual evidence. Measuring sea level is difficult and depends on equipment such as tide gauges that are anything but flawlessly accurate. For example, subsidence caused by the weight of buildings can lower gauges, making it appear that sea levels are rising. In fact, no evidence exists to prove that sea levels are rising. Daly is a science adviser for the Greening Earth Society.
