Posted by jrshim on Thursday September 4, 2008 at 9:06 PMA student may choose to select their major at any point in their college years. It is, however, suggested that many choose by the end of the their second years so that they may have enough time to complete their major courses. Students at Emory have the option of having one major, two majors, or a major and a minor. A student may not major in three disciplines, they have limited to two disciplines. Freshmen students are not able to declare their major until they reach their sophomore year. Freshmen, in the meantime, are all assigned an advisor who will guide them select classes until they declare a major at, which point, they choose an advisor in their respective discipline’s department.

Posted by emorystudent on Sunday January 4, 2009 at 3:50 PMAlthough students do not need to technically declaire a major until the end of sophomore year, students even in their freshman year need to start thinking about what they think they are going to do. For instance, if a student wants to follow the business school track, he/she must take the prerequisites during their freshman and sophomore years since all six must be completed by the end of the sophomore year. So, although students can switch their majors throughout their years at Emory, it is advisable to tell freshman to start thinking of their possible major from first semester so that they can choose the right classes to take.
