There is a Greek system. Emory possesses a very active Greek life; however, one can either choose to be involved in this social sphere or not. Either choice does not make an impact on a student’s social life since Emory has a delayed-rush system, meaning students cannot pledge to fraternities or sororities until their second semester. This system is effective in that it helps both students who go Greek and those who do not mingle together without a noticeable separation. Emory’s Greek system offers students from all backgrounds, including those that have African American, Hispanic, or Asian affiliations or to those that concentrates on high academics and community service. Statistically, a third of Emory students are Greek. Students have noticed that it is very simple to not pay attention to Greek life, which is a benefit for those who merely are not interested.
