What does Emilia Galotti mean to Count Appiani?

This is from Lessing's Emilia Galotti.  I understand why Emilia would want to marry the Count but I do not see why the Count would want to marry Emilia?  Could it be to inherit the lands of her father?  What benefit is it for the Count to marry Emilia? Symbolically, what does the count represent about Germany?
