The Ten WORST Things About Elon

  • Very little diversity on campus.

  • Laundry facilities are sparse (four washers and dryers for an entire building) and sometimes even dirty.

  • Sports teams are not the most successful.

  • Some of the meal plan restrictions can be frustrating and nonsensical.

  • The education program is very strong, but not broad—Elon does not offer licensure English as a Second Language (ESL), teaching drama or dance, and other specifics. Check with the education department to ensure what you want is actually offered. The gym has state-of-the-art equipment.

  • There is no music building. If you are interested in music, you have to walk over the train tracks to “the other side of the world” to meet with your voice or instrument instructor.

  • There are no elevators in some of the dorms and buildings. The school is working on changing that, but we don't know when that will happen.

  • The Department of Performing Arts does not own the dance studios, and thus must get permission to use them from Koury Athletic Center, making it difficult for dancers to practice and forcing aerobics classes to work around other schedules.

  • None of the dining halls open before 11 a.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. Octagon opens before eleven on Saturdays only. This is extremely difficult for students who like to get an early start on the weekend. (Yes, college students can get up before noon!)

  • The lines in the dining halls are always ridiculously long. Don't ever try to get lunch at Octagon, because you'll wait 20 minutes for “fast food.”
