    The well-to-do in the Elizabethan era favored a Greek revival style of architecture. On the exterior, stone columns and intricate brick work were all the rage. The designs were all about symmetry and precision.

    Interior design also reflected this symmetry. Curtains, upholstery and rugs often co-ordinated. Rich and luxurious fabrics were used in bedrooms. The Metropolitan Museum also notes that "ceilings were often outfitted with ornate plasterwork and illusionistic paintings, and daring wood carvings embellished windows, doors, and balustrades."
