The Story:
The Zany and his fellow homeless beggars lay sleeping in the
shadow of the cathedral as night fell. Too poor to pay fines, they
were generally undisturbed by the police, but Colonel Sonriente
decided to amuse himself by tormenting the Zany, whose one comfort
in his miserable life was memories of his mother. When the colonel
awakened him by shouting, “Mother!” in his ear, the
Zany jumped up and beat the colonel to death.
The beggars were rounded up by the police and tortured to reveal
