Marshall wouldn't tell the police what he saw because he didn't want to tell a secret if April didn't want him to. He is so used to playing the Egypt Game and not being allowed to say anything, that he isn't sure if he is allowed to tell the police about the man that he saw or not. April tells the police, "I think he just wants to be sure he isn't telling a secret. Marshall never tells secrets" (pg. 188). Marshall is very mature for his age and everyone always forgets that he is only four years old. When he describes the man as "spotted" with orange hair, he means that the man had red hair and freckles. He also says the man is old, because compared to him, almost everyone is older than four. Marshall seems very grown up at times, but he is still just a little boy and doesn't understand the situation enough to know that he should tell the police everything he saw. He also cannot properly articulate everything that he knows to the police, because he is so young. Posted by slchanmo1885 on Feb 24, 2009. |
