Mineral oil, as contrasted with vegetable or animal-based oils. Oil is used mainly for fuel, but also in the manufacture of lubricants and chemicals. It is the most important single fuel source in the world at present. While stocks are finite, so that it is a depletable resource, the world's oil reserves are far from fully explored, and exhaustion of the stock is not imminent.
