modulusThe size of a number, in the sense of its distance from zero. The modulus or absolute value of a real number x (symbol |x|) is the difference between x and zero, regardless of sign. Thus if x > 0, |x| = x and if x < 0, |x| = −x. The modulus of a complex number, x = a + ib, is defined as
