Montezuma I, or Montezuma Ilhuicamina (also spelled Moctezuma or Motecuhzoma; pronounced mohk-the-ZOO-mah ill-whee-cah-MEE-nah), ruled the Aztecs from 1440 to 1469. His full name means "angry archer who shoots an arrow in the sky."
