From the time the Aztecs settled in Tenochtitlán (pronounced tay-notch-teet-LAHN) in 1325 until the day the Spanish conquered the city in 1521 was a period of just less than two hundred years. There were two distinct eras of government and economy during this time, each about one hundred years long. During the period from 1325 until 1427, the Aztecs were under the domination of the Tepanecs.
