Duquesne Slang
Know the slang, know the school. The following is a list of things you really need to know before coming to Duquesne. The more of these words you know, the better off you'll be.
- A-Walk
Short for Academic Walk. This is the main drag running through campus.
- The Bluff
What students sometimes call the hill on which Duquesne sits.
- The Bubble or Bluff Zit
Refers to the overly large, enclosed bubble which is inflated over the AJ Rooney Athletic Field in the winter months. Really only used by practicing teams and Greek Carnival.
- College Special
A special extra-large pizza and drink deal from Pizza Milano.
- Flex
Cash equivalency that a student may use at various dining halls.
- The Framp
Common nickname of the Off Ramp eatery.
- The Happy Bus
This is a free shuttle service that carries students to and from Oakland and Duquesne on Fridays and Saturdays. Named so due to the large number of inebriated students using this service.
- The Hill
The Hill District, which is adjacent to campus.
- Milano's
Pizza Milano. Kept in business by Duquesne students. Learn their number: (412) 281–8181.
- The Stairs
Common meeting area for druggies, off of campus and away from the police.
- St. Alcatraz
St. Ann's common nickname. This is due to the separation of the guy's and girl's wings by the main lobby.
- Student Rush
Refers to the special ticket deal the Pittsburgh Penguins offer to Duquesne students. Get the best seat available an hour before game time for $20.
