How does he/she react to situations, particularly under stress? When approaching a crisis point, what choices does the character ultimately make? Who or what is sacrificed if there is a conflict of loyalties?
Secondly, look at speech. What does the character say to others and in what manner? (This includes body language.) Also, what does he say about others and about himself? Also, does he or she express ideals or values; if so, are actions consistent with words?
Finally, consider his/her motives (and motivation!). Does the character look after his or her personal interests or is empathy and concern for the welfare of others displayed?
All of these aspects must be considered when establishing a character profile. (There are others, but this is enough to get you going!)
