Discussion groups may face two significant difficulties when discussing Dracula. One is that group members may not actually read the novel. Frequently, people believe that having seen numerous motion-picture adaptations of the novel that they already know the novel well enough to discuss it. No adaptation actually captures the novel's narrative structure, and one the most interesting aspects of the novel — how Stoker creates terror with words — cannot be evaluated without having read the novel.
