"Don't Look Now" is a story about John. It's primary thematic concern is with his inability to recognize the signs of danger placed in his way. While he seems kind and caring toward his wife, his attitude toward both the slowness of her recovery from the loss of their child and her faith in the psychic twins demonstrates an infantilizing, patriarchal attitude toward her. He attempts to control her mood by playing games, steering her through the Venetian sights and reciting maxims exhorted by their doctor. For him, even his wife's emotional state can be rationally analyzed and controlled....
