Certainly he does. The beauty of Ibsen's characters is that they are all complex, will both positive and negative attributes. Torvald is a well-educated with a strong work ethic. He adheres strictly to the law and wants to not only be seen as being respectable, but to actually be respectable. He is a devoted - if condescending - husband and a good friend to Dr. Rank. He is out of touch with his family, and frankly, with the world, but he does not have sinister intent. He honestly wants to "do right" in all situations. He also has courage of his convictions, shown in his adamancy not to borrow money from anyone.
