Krogstad, a bank employee who has forged documents at the bank he works at, attempts to blackmail Nora to save his job. He is the one who lent Nora the money she needed to take Torvald away on a trip to Italy to restore his health.

Because Krogstad is aware that Torvald wants him to be fired because of his forging, he feels pressured to blackmail Nora with the information that she herself committed forgery. Nora forged her father's name on the loan application, and Krogstad is aware of it. He threatens to ruin her if she does not save his job.
