Using Music to Mirror Action in a Novel
Students complete a Visible Thinking activity and then are presented with a writing prompt.
After listening to and watching “Path” by Apocalyptica, pretend that you have been commissioned to create a sound track for the upcoming film, The Hunger Games. For which scene in the novel (BE SPECIFIC) would you choose to use this piece of music to mirror the action? Remember that the video you watched is someone else’s interpretation of the music put to film. How did the action in the video mirror the music? You will attempt to create a similar effect with a scene from The Hunger Games.
In a well thought out essay, fully explain your choice of scene from the novel, being sure to analyze how elements from the music that you saw, heard, thought, or wondered about would support the action. Use specific details from the novel (with embedded quotations) as well as specific details in the music.
