Quarterly Independent Reading Essay

Each quarter of the school year, my students have to read a book or article outside of class. Throughout the year, they must read two books and two scholarly articles. They get to choose when they will read a book and when they will read an article. At the end of every quarter, I schedule a day for them to bring their books and articles to class and give them a writing prompt something of this nature. They do not know ahead of time what exactly they are going to write about. The idea behind this project is getting them to read, liking/enjoying reading, and increasing their vocabulary and literacy levels.
