My son's 2nd grade class did this as a play today. I couldn't understand half of what was said so I just downloaded this copy. It is interesting. I'm not sure of the value to the students. There is no clear and beneficial moral to the story. The capybara was a little proud, the beetle a little deceptive, and both seeking some outward flashy worldly demonstration of how special they are. The foolish capybara gets eaten and the beetle gets an unneeded jeweled coat to show off to the world and think he is special as a result. I think I would have voted for the reader's theater about George Washington Carver. It is 2nd grade, and the kids seemed to have a reasonably good time, those that weren't embarrassed. However, I would hope the same thing could be accomplished with a little more of a "takeaway", a lesson to be learned and applied to life. Posted by yesabandc on May 13, 2009. |
