Essay prompts for a chapter-to-chapter study of Henry James’ Washington Square. This activity includes prompts for Chapter 4. Each prompt requires students to write a three- to five-paragraph essay of literary analysis on James’ novel. Useful in teaching students to go beyond mere summary to a deeper analysis based on a close reading of the text. A handout page with the essay prompts, with a teacher’s key with suggested points to be included in each essay.
