Disgrace | Characters
The interplay of characters is of great importance to this novel. The narrative's binaries become clear as the various characters react. David Lurie, at the center, is a self-centered, man at midlife, who believes he has gotten to a place of comfort and intelligence. As a self-professed ladies man, his relationships with women belie a kind of ineptitude in actually dealing with women in an effective and healthy way.
