Most of the details known about the life of Dio Cassius (DI-oh KASH-ee-uhs) come from his historical writings, which include numerous statements about his experiences in Rome and his various political offices. Although these writings provide only sketchy information about his early life, they indicate that he was raised in a wealthy and politically powerful family in Nicaea.
