Anne shares with the reader her personal thoughts and feelings in regards to her family, the war, coming of age, and her romantic interests, although it can be assumed that she never wrote with the intention of sharing her writing with the public. She is painfully honest as she paints the reader a picture of what it was like to be a normal adolescent in the early twentieth century as well as what it was like to be a Jewish adolescent in a society where her culture and faith was oppressed.
