A book's dollar value is whatever the highest bidder is willing to pay for it at auction. What it means to the reader cannot be valued so easily. Amazon has a 1955 first edition hard cover for sale at $30. However, Alibris has two first editions for sale, one at $71.14, the other at $168.86. Quite a difference in prices!
