Students Speak Out On Overall Experience

“In a way, I do wish that I was somewhere else—going to a college with less work, in a city with tons of people and many places to go on the weekend. But if I had to do it again, I would still choose Davidson. The workload is really overwhelming, and it’s easy to lose sight of the ‘real world’ apart from Davidson, but the friendships I have made and the opportunities that have stemmed from being a student here outweigh the stress of work (well, almost). The people that make up Davidson are incredible and the type of education I am receiving is one of the best. Professors care about students, and other students care about their peers because we are all in the same boat. The social scene at Davidson is small and can get frustrating, but close friends are always there to ease the pain. I would rather be surrounded by a few close friends that know me well than a campus of thousands of students who, if I’m lucky, I will see more than once.”

“Attending Davidson has been the most intellectually rewarding experience of my life. High school left me longing for what impassions me most—literature. Davidson has offered me a once in a lifetime opportunity for fellowship with faculty and my peers that I find to be endlessly entertaining. Emotionally and psychologically speaking, however, attending Davidson has also been a most challenging experience as someone for whom a validating recognition of difference is vitally important as an intellectual, poet, spiritual seeker, and gay man. I have often struggled with whether transferring would solve some of the things with which I’ve struggled while at Davidson; I do not yet have answers to those questions, but I do know that I want the education that Davidson has offered me, cherish the friendships I have made, and am willing to try to flourish here as long as I am able.”
