David Plante was a frequent contributor of short fiction to The New Yorker magazine,
including stories such as “Mr. Bonito” (July 7, 1980), “Work”
(September 21, 1981), “The Accident” (August 9, 1982), and “A House of
Women” (April 28, 1986). Plante also published one book of nonfiction, Difficult
Women: A Memoir of Three (1983), an account of his relationships with Sonia Orwell,
George Orwell’s widow, and writers
