According to Karl Marx, the Russian Revolution was as inevitable as the subsequent worldwide growth of communism as a dynamic political force. It may be, however, that communism would not have emerged had it not been for Marx’s having written Das Kapital. Even if economic unbalance had resulted in a revolutionary uprising of the proletariat somewhere, it might not have taken the form it did or occurred when it did without the immense influence of this book.
