I am currently enrolled in an advanced placement English class at my high school, and we were assigned a packet of questions about HEART OF DARKNESS (over our Spring Break, might I add). My problem is that I could barely follow a single word of this book! I read it, and could barely be able to tell you three sentences about what happened! My English grade is really riding on whether or not I get this packet (which happens to also include an essay) completed within the next 3 days, so any help that you guys could give me would be GREATLY appreciated!!! See if your public library has an audiobook version. Maybe if you hear it read aloud, and follow along in the book, you'll get more meaning out of it. Also, don't forget the resources available in the eNotes study guide. Click on this link http://www.enotes.com/darkness/ and then take advantage of all the material there. Check all of the tabs at the top of the page. I hate to suggest this, but you're running out of time. A movie version was made in the 1990s, starring John Malkovich. Try to rent and watch it. I'm sure someone else will have good ideas for you as well. And, hey, you'll get no sympathy from all of us teachers that you had to read over spring break! :) Good luck!! The enotes guide to Heart of Darkness should have everything you need. Then, when you have more specific questions, refer to the text and then ask them here. You'll get through it! Posted by blazedale on Apr 17, 2008. |

If you can't find an audio version of the book, then read it aloud. This will help to increase your understanding of the sentences and sentence structure. It would be even more helpful to do the reading with a friend, then you could work it out together. Posted by sullymonster on Apr 20, 2008. |
