The Story:
Bruce Dudley’s name was not actually Bruce Dudley but John Stockton. He had grown tired of being John Stockton, reporter on a Chicago paper and married to Bernice. His wife, who worked on the same paper and wrote magazine stories on the side, thought him flighty, and he admitted it. He wanted adventure, and he wanted to go back to Old Harbor, the river town in Indiana where he had spent his childhood. With less than three hundred dollars, he left Chicago, Bernice, and his job on the paper. He picked up the name Bruce Dudley from two store signs in an Illinois town....
