The debate about the court which remains from the beginning of the trials in Act Three and continues until the end of the play is whether or not the girls are lying. The supporters of the court are Rev. Parris, the Putnams, and, for part of Act Three, Rev. Hale. During Act Three Rev. Hale quits the court when he realizes the corruption that is taking place. The characters who are clearly against the court are the Proctors, the Nurses, and the Coreys.
