Summary
Act Two is set in John Proctor’s house, in the common room downstairs, several days after the events of Act One. As the curtain opens, Elizabeth is heard singing to the children upstairs. John enters, tastes the soup in the pot over the fireplace, and re-seasons it. Elizabeth comes downstairs and the two sit down to dinner, making small talk about the crops.
