In the following viewpoint, Charles H. Logan argues against the notion that prisons should rehabilitate prisoners. The philosophy of rehabilitation, in his opinion, is based on the mistaken belief that criminals are victims of social and personal deficiencies beyond their control. Instead, according to Logan, prisons should employ punitive measures in order to hold convicts personally accountable for their crimes.
