Francis has been given a second chance at life after his near-death experience with the plane crash, so he feels uninhibited and free.  This causes him to do uncharacteristic things like speak rudely to Mrs. Wrightson and "hit" on Anne, the family's babysitter.  He appears to be attracted to Anne because it is a "new" experience for him and because she brings out physical feelings for him that he's not felt in a long time with his wife.  He is exploring his "new self" and part of that involves exploring his newfound feelings of physical attraction again.  Anne is younger, attractive, and is just starting to live her life, which perhaps Francis might long to go back to.
