In "The Count of Monte Cristo," Haydee is the person who would be "happy to never leave" the Count. The daughter of Ali Pasha, she was sold into slavery after her father was killed by de Morcef (Ferdinand). After some time, the Count buys her and she remains in his service to later testify against de Morcef. While in the service of the Count, she grows to love him deeply. The Count tells her, "Perhaps your love will help me to forget all that I do not wish to remember."
Haydee's love provides the redemption that Edmund Dantes needs after he has doled out his revenge upon mortal enemies who had sent him to prison as a youth, and after he has saved the life of his old friend's son, Maxmillian Morrel.
