Cormac McCarthy is known almost exclusively as a writer of novels. Short excerpts from his novels in progress sometimes appeared in such literary magazines as Yale Review, Sewanee Review, and TriQuarterly. He also wrote the script for The Gardener’s Son, a teleplay in the Visions series shown on public television. First broadcast in January, 1977, the drama is based on an actual murder in 1876 in Graniteville, South Carolina.
