The janitor is a foil to Ozzie. He is a Jew yes but only in the fact that he was born Jewish, not a practicing one. He is at most appathetic in his religion and is decribed as being weak in life which translates to weak in his religion. He and other charectors are portraied as lesser Jews to make Ozzies breakthrough that much more powerfull. Ozzie is strong in his convicitons. He thinks his questions deserve real answers and doesn't understand...
