INTRODUCTION

Nadine Gordimer's first published novel, The Lying Days, was published in 1953 in New York by Simon and Schuster and in London by Gollancz. It was reprinted by New American Library in 1955, by Cape in 1978, and by Virago in 1983. A Penguin edition followed in 1994. The novel was translated into Swedish as Lögnens dagar in 1955, into German as Entzauberung in 1956, and into Korean as Kojit ui Naldul in 2000.
