Sissman, L(ouis) E(dward) 1928–1976
An American poet, editor, and essayist, Sissman, in a time when most poets were experimenting with free verse and other unconventional forms, clung to stanzaic verse, the iambic foot, couplets, and sonnets. He was a frequent contributor to The New Yorker and wrote a column, "Innocent Bystander," for The Atlantic Monthly.
