Alain Robbe-Grillet is the forerunner of a revolution in the novel more radical than Romanticism and Naturalism were in their time. This almost unknown form, he tells us, is already trying to establish itself in spite of resistance all the way from publishers to the most modest readers "via the bookseller and the critic." Renouncing "sacrosanct psychological analysis," and, as far as possible, the subjective point of view, it tries to reflect the world as it is: neither significant nor absurd, just present….
