Niven, Larry 1938–

Niven is an American science fiction novelist and short story writer. One of the most promising of the younger practitioners of science fiction, he has the rare ability to combine stylistic proficiency with a sophisticated awareness of current scientific discoveries and trends. In this respect, Niven writes "hard" science fiction or updated space opera. Niven, who already has three Hugo Awards to his credit, has recently been writing in collaboration with Jerry Pournelle.
