Pseudonym of Hiraoka Kimitake. A Japanese novelist, short story writer, and dramatist, Mishima was the author of Confessions of a Mask, The Temple of the Golden Pavilion, and the tetralogy The Sea of Fertility upon completion of which he committed ritual suicide. The novels of Yukio Mishima are rich, complex structures in which character and action, idea and image intimately coalesce.
