   Mark Twain did an excellent job of contrasting the real, gritty England of the early medieval era with what everyone pictures when they think of Camelot and King Arthur.  The England that Hank encountered was far different from the storybook Camelot that is pictured when one mentions King Arthur.  Instead, Hank found dirty, hungry people, trying to scrape a living out of a small patch of ground, then being told they had to give most of it to whichever nobleman owned the land.
