Explain the irony in having Merlin send the Yankee back to the 19th century in A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court.

    The irony in this situation is that Merlin was beaten so many times by Hank Morgan with his Yankee ingenuity, and yet at the end, Merlin is the one able to put Morgan into the sleep that took him back to the 19th century.

    There is also irony in the fact that when he was sent back, Hank Morgan (the Yankee, or The Boss) was found, raving mad over his lost life with his wife and child in Camelot.  After destroying Camelot and the pastoral existence of the 6th century, he wanted very much to go back to that existence, rather than be in the "modern" 19th century in which he awoke.
