A subsidiary of DaimlerChrysler AG since 2000, Detroit Diesel Corporation is the leading designer, manufacturer, and seller of medium and heavy-duty diesel engines serving the commercial truck, automotive, off-road, and marine markets. Detroit Diesel also services its engines through a global network of more than 2,700 authorized distributors and dealers. In addition, it manufactures two- and four-cycle engines for the international automotive market. Since the early 1990s, the company's Series 60 diesel engine, one of the first to take advantage of electronic engine controls, has been the bestselling heavy duty diesel engine on the market, but new engines are set to be introduced in 2007 to meet stricter Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) standards.
