“The Colored Museum” was George C. Wolfe's first production at The Public Theater in London in the year 1987.   It had been a successful production of the Crossroad Theater in New Jersey the year before.  This play is a satirical depiction of cultural icons of the African American culture.  It is an attempt to let people see what it was like to be black in America.  The play is a group of 11 vignettes and features characters like Miss Pat and Mama.  It is a play of stereotypes and can be funny and painful to watch.

Following its run at The Public Theater in London it went on to play at London's Royal Court Theatre as part of an exchange program with The Public.
