    Sophia is just the racial character of a mammy character. Big, mother like, and kkind of dressed like a slave and just has to have everytthing she wants when it comes to being free and not taking anything from anyone who wants to disrespect her.

     

    To me, Sophia was Celie inner self. Sophia wanted totake control but Celie wanted to get that out but she couldn't because she was afraid to so it took a big role to see Celie stand up towards the end and do what sophis would have done.

    She is a strong woman wich Celie is not. She has an effect on her that being trained like a dog is not a life to live.
