Is the demand for optometrists high? Is it low? Where can I see what careers are in demand?

    The U.S. Department of Labor puts together a very useful resource each year which is available for free at bls.gov/OCO/.  It lists valuable information for all careers including: the working conditions, the type of preparation (academically and experience wise) that is required, the avarage salaries, and the expected demand within the profession as projected over the next five years.  According to this site, optometrists are expected to be in fairly high demand for the next several years.  This is expected in part because of the highly competitive nature of the optometrist programs available at universities (there are only 16 such schools).
