Hello, Dee
You ask some good questions. Here's the best advice I can give you on college. You sound like you hae the pre-requisites for admission to each of the universities fairly well under control. Here's question that I would ask of each of your choices: "What percentage of your seniors who take the MCAT (Medical College Admission Test) pass well enough to be admitted into medical school?" Admission into medical school is a tough...

Certainly, Loyola University is renowned for its program in dentistry, and medicine figures highly, as well. Taught by the Jesuits, Loyola has high standards and a fine reputation. The university in Chicago, Illinois, has a great reputation in this city; however, there are several other Loyolas, including the one in New Orleans. If you are considering a certain location, by all means, visit the school as sometimes the school itself and it...

The best investment you can make is in your education, even if you have to borrow money to go you no one can repossess your degree. That being said, you should go to the best university/college that you can afford to go to that will put you in the best position to go to medical school. You should apply to and visit every school that you are interested in. Ultimately, though the choice is the school's so you never want to only apply to...

I was looking into Knox College in Illinois because I heard that a great percentage of their students get accepted into medical school. I also like the fact that it's around 3 hours away from me. I also like the fact that it's a small school. I am definitely going to apply there. I heard Loyola (Chicago)has a good med program and Benedictine is only 30min away and it's cheaper.

Thank God you're not a History major. Those jobs, in our area at least, have a tendency to go to male coaches, but the powers that be don’t admit to that either. Granted every certification you can get will make you more marketable, but Biology would definitely be the certification to pursue in this day and age. Think about how it ties in to your future too. What will be more beneficial when you decide to pursue an advanced degree that is...

I agree completely with what answer 3 says. I would also add that female science teachers are at least somewhat of a hot commodity since they are relatively less common than male ones. No one's going to admit that that goes into the hiring process, but it can't hurt.
Just don't apply to be the football coach because people might know that your university just dropped the sport and they won't think you know anything about it...

Every additional certification you can acquire will improve your chances of getting a job. However, in today's economy, many schools are having to cut back. Science (and in many states, biology in particular) is a graduation requirement; dance is not. Nationally, there have sometimes been shortages of science teachers over the past ten years, and some states or districts have even paid special bonuses to science teachers.
There is no...

That is a hard question. In the end, I do not think one answer will be better than the other, since every school that you apply to will be different. They will have their own criteria. For example, there are some schools where the health teacher is the gym teacher - the school at attended when I was a child. In other schools the nurse teaches health where I teach now. So, there is no set answer. If I had to take a guess, I would say stick to...

You fill out a basic profile that includes your income, background, ethnicity, GPA, etc., and when a scholarship comes open that you qualify for, they email you the application. It's pretty painless.
It's also important to remember that about 20% of scholarships are not awarded to anyone since no one applied for them. Seriously, there are...

I approached college with the same attitude as I had all other education before -- and did not do as well as I had hoped. Partly because I wanted to explore new things, partly because doing everything the same way I had put me in a position of falling behind in classes when something happened (and for many of us "something happened") In my case I wound up blacked out and on the floor three times in a quarter and everyone tested for diabetes...

"Studying all the time" is definitely not the right approach for doing well in college. However, it is worthwhile remembering that while studying in your college your main occupation should be studies. People with regular jobs have to work 40 hours a week. This is the minimum time that one should devote to studies. I believe spending up to 12 hours of a studies a day, including in classroom and outside it, will give you benefits in proportion...

Having just completed my second master's degree while working full time I have to say, you have to use your time carefully. Don't wait till the last minute to get assignments in, and have them ready with all of the requirements. My rule of thumb is usually three hours of study per hour of class time. You will find that some classes require more and some less.
I think a good rule of thumb is to break down your reading assignments into parts but...

Your question is a very broad one. As a college graduate that struggled during my undergraduate, my advice to your question would be to find out what works best for you. I say that with hope that you will actually try different study techniques and evaluate if they did you any good or not. It is frustrating as a teacher to see students fail at a particular study method, (say highlighting text and then re-reading highlights before an...
